According to German sources, it seems that Sony is strong arming German PS3 Break buyers into destroying their hacking / homebrew-enabling devices.
More precisely, Sony's lawyers are asking German buyers of PS3 Break to transfer the rights to request the package back from customs over to the company and to agree on the destruction of the device. German buyers are also required to sign a "cease and desist" letter which subjects them to fines in excess of 5,100 Euros if they import, distribute or use any device that allows or eases bypassing the copy protection of the PS3. Those who refuse to sign the "cease and desist" face a lawsuit asking for 50,000 Euros in damages.

This is just stupid, if I buy something then it's mine aint it?
If I buy a cam recorder with built in 16GB storage memory and take it apart and desolder the NAND cips and replaces them with bigger ones because I can and it's fun, then noone comes knocking my door, so why now?
It's the same thing both involves modefying the product, in the cam recorder case I rebuild it to the same specs as a more expensive high memory model. Noone would care besides I void my warranty.
This is just plain stupid, im glad im not from germany.

There are plenty of reasons to want full control over the device, and many of them have little to do with people seeking to deny others a fair multiplayer experience.
Things like wanting full control over the device so that you can do something like run another operating system on it that uses the full capabilities of the hardware....

If you buy it, you should be able to use it as you want to. If you break the law with it, then you should be penalized and not the company offering a product that opens the horizon of unlocking a console.

This site right here is one of the first places I seen the last big "BAN" on xbox 360 bans for modded consoles. Also one of the first for the one befor that too. Even going way back in the day when microsoft sued the dude that started Lindows OS. Seen it on here. Also seen alot of BIG talk about Sony on here.

that's the real reason someone really needs to stand up to Sony, sadly no one has yet. and more sadly no govt has said anything yet to this either. if you look at the ipod/iphone/ipad and their jailbreak its basically the same thing. sony really also doesn't want this out there because they would loose alot of money because of this and so they are now trying to protect themselves from anther wii hacking or xbox hacking scene. which once again is too late, there already now is one that is coming up with newer and newer things almost daily. so in conclusion why is it sony is now imposing this kind of "voluntary" thing. when its clearly in the best interest of the German people to just not do that and just keep their devices for themselves and not sign nothing. that that is something that is basically a dictator or socialist ideology. forcing people to do what you want.

what about those who are using this for legal means such as backup up their own games and using this for emulation and other things that come with it. other than piracy. keep that in mind, some people rather not pay for another copy of a game they already own or rather go and buy another copy of a game because it scratched or became cracked. sides that remember the psp go, yah Sony does have it coming to them cuz that isn't right charging people again for a digital copy of a game they already own.that and other things that sony has done to date that's not exactly legal such as dual shock controllers being stolen ideas that were copyright infringement. and so on. Sony has the right to have this done to them anyways cuz as i recalled them bragging that the ps3 is unhackable and now that its hacked they sure are backpedaling and frantic to stop it.
