Sony CEO: Kotick Just Likes To Make Noise

Speaking to Reuters, Sony Corp CEO Howard Stringer once again ridiculed Activision CEO Bobby Kotick for his repeated public calls to cut down the Playstation 3 price.

"He likes to make a lot of noise," Stringer said, referring to Kotick. "He's putting pressure on me and I'm putting pressure on him. That's the nature of business."

The interviewer then asked Stringer about the logic behind sustaining the console's high price point, and his response was quite simple actually: "I [would] lose money on every PlayStation I make -- how's that for logic."

After all this time it's impossible to keep the same price on something that NEVER changes...I seriously doubt that they keep production costs the same way they did when the console came out, so that means the are make A LOT more money now than they did back then. This is all BS how can you lose money if you got a profit 2 years ago when it was likely to cost you more to produce? This people will never change, I hate SONY for thinking we are all stupid, but I hate XBOX 360 because let's be honest Microsoft ain't any better than SONY...This generation of consoles can suck my balls. I would rather shoot my self than to give any of my money to these bastards.

He makes the playstations? I thought they were made in China like all other consoles.Beside the fact that there have been several hardware revisions that have likely made it less expensive to produce, keeping a high price point makes most people shy away.As much as I'd like to think otherwise, video games are for kids. if mommy and daddy won't shell out 400+ dollars for a console, then little billy isn't getting one.

Yeah it sure is a far superior machine with it's blurry textures and sub-720p resolution on the average game. Anyone with a little bit of technical know-how understands that the PS3 and X360 are even. None is superior to the other. That's why the PS3 ain't worth the price. And wtf, "I lose money on every PS3 sold."? That strategy is more than a decade old. Indroduced by Nintendo. Sell cheap, get the profit from sold games. Sony is trying to profit from both consoles And games right now. Just like Nintendo. And don't give me that RROD bullsh1t, it's not a problem anymore.

Some of you are pretty far off. Sony started out by losing BIG on the PS3, but manufacturing costs have dropped, yet they are still losing roughly 40$ on each console. tomsguide (search Google for proof)I agree with Anon 12:55 though, it's almost a must to lose money on the console in the short-term and gain profits in the long run through game disc royalties.

Anonymous @ 13:10Correct, I was about to say that about the ps3 cost. Sony started out losing lots of cash per ps3 and still does today. But considering the ps3 is the markest cheapest blu-ray player and not just a console then its fine to pay $400 for one, heck there was a time when the 360 was about $400 and people paid.

I'm Anon at 12:55. I had to retype the stupid captcha and forgot to retype my name when doing so. To anon at 13:10; Fair enough, but they should still be able to lower the price a little but further. It's like they still haven't closed the distance between them and M$. And unlike M$ they didn't have to deal with the RROD disaster at launch. And to Anon at 20:30; that has nothing to do with "hardware superiority", it's a matter of preference in art direction.

Anonymousat 3:30 14/7/2009 what you don't realise is that to get the quality that you get with the xbox, you need a beefy gaming rig, not some old pre-vista machine. xbox's in the uk can be bought for pocket money now, a mere £120, you show me a pc that can do cod4 or gow2 or to that matter any xbox game for the same price, and the same quality.
