Sony Claims Playstation 3 Programming Difficulty Is Deliberate

Kaz Hirai, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, defended the difficulty of programming for the Playstation 3 console.

According to Mr. Hirai, Sony chose not to "provide the 'easy to program for' console that (developers) want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is, what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?".

"So it's a kind of--I wouldn't say a double-edged sword--but it's hard to program for," Hirai continued, "and a lot of people see the negatives of it, but if you flip that around, it means the hardware has a lot more to offer."

lol anyone who buys this guys BS is an idiot. they screwed up big time, while other consoles were trying to make it easier on devs, sony decides that they don't give a f***, same reason the xbox 360 is generally the base platform for multiplatform games, and the same reason games usually look and play better on the 360... dumb move on sony's part.

I own a PS3 (and PC of course) and I do enjoy the system however I agree that the "we did it on purpose" speech is a load of crap. They charge enough for the developer kits to keep crap off the system but it's the fact that they're so stuck up (it's why UMD died you stupid asses...and I bought two PSP's - thanks for NOTHING).Anyway...just my two cents worth
