Sony Claims PS2 is a Computer

A European court has ruled that Sony's Playstation 2 is a computer rather than a games console. It may seem unlikely but it was Sony that went after the ruling in order to avoid extra taxes which are charged when importing a games console into the European Union.
According to the electronics giant, its Playstation 2 console should be defined based on its internal components and not by its use, making it a computer.
With the decision in their pockets, Sony's legal team will now attempt to reclaim all the taxes that they have paid so far, a sum which could be very near the million dollar mark.

Whether this move has anything to do with the company's decision to lower the U.K. price of the console to GBP 139, a cut of GBP 30, is not clear but more cuts, or interesting bundles could be under way if they manage to reclaim the taxes they paid in the past.

What is the point in a MAC, I mean even if it was more powerful then a real PC (which it is not you cant get any good games for it, I mean when was the last time you herd of Half Life to comping out for MAC, haha het real.

ladies, ladies, simmer down. the ps2 is crap as we all know. now...to consider it a computer? lol...it must be the most popular computer out there!the term "computer" is over-used. computers are not just microcomputers (like that piece of garbage you're looking at). a computer can be a supercomputer, a mainframe, a workstation, a *microcomputer*, or a microcontroller. do ur dumb research, idiots. the term computer is used like the term "prejudice".people think prejudice means discrimination or something similar to that effect. wrong. if you're prejudice against something, that's when you're discriminating. that brings me back to the point of a "computer". people generally call a PC or Mac a computer...it's like calling a Corvette a "car"...*you gotta be some dumbass fag to be doing so* and so...the ps2 CAN be considered a computer...ever noticed how whenever you turn on the ps2, it says "sony computer entertainment america"? it doesn't rule a ps2 as one, just coz it was developed by the comp team of sony...but the features on it qualify it as a computer. sure as hell, it's not a PC...but it's a computer.get ur sh!t right, dawgs.

I never understood the anti-PS2 sentiment out there. I mean, come on, it's not like it's got stiff competition. The gamecube is well.....a gaycube (what do you expect from nintendo, 90% of their games are for kids under the age of 10.....which is about 90% of the people who post here......wait a sec, i think i understand now). And the Xbox.....dont get me started on that.....too late. It has one of the worst controller designs out there (a close second to the dreamcast controller.....WHAT WAS SEGA THINKING????), and well.....it's not much more than a PC that you plug into the TV (which i had back in the 80s).....except this one is made by M$ (which automatically makes the machines from the 80s MUCH BETTER). Plus, my overall impression of the XCrox was badly tarnished when a machine I was playin on at EB crashed REPEATEDLY on me.....good to see M$ have upheld their reputation.Oh and I find it hilarious that someone actually used the "macs are crap because there aren't any games on it" argument. I suppose in a decade or so (around the time yer balls will drop) you'll realise *shock & horror* computers arent just for games.....and hey....the PC format is sometimes found wanting!Going even further off topic.....I'd seriously like to know why we're still using x86 technology after 20+ years......just what the hell does Intel's R&D department do all day?

i've owned my ps2 since they were first released, and its still going hard. never had a problem with it. as for a computer, i would say it is, anything that has a central processing unit i would classify as a computer.

Who cares??? Consoles suck, the PC rules if u got the $$$ to let it rock. If not then the xBox ist the only serious alternative, PS2 is 4 12-16 year olds and the Cube is a waste of Plastic only good for Born-Again Christians and 10 year olds. Why does any info about a console always turn into a debate about which one is better? PC is the ultimate games machine either way so it dont matter. As for PS2 being a computer...wouldn't that make every other console a PC as well? they all have the same internal components, they all play games, only difference is...different consoles play different games in different ways. Like "Count Cares" says, Who cares? Besides, if any console ranked above all, it would be the X-Box. As for "Urh"s comment...My X-Box has never crashed, the controller S is perfect and much better than the tacky ones made by Sony. going back to the main point, who cares? If the PS2 is a console, then so is every damn console out at the moment!

Lets see....PS2 does come with Broadband adapter, Keyboard, mouse, Processor, & a DVD-drive. All its need is a hard drive. By all means its a PC. This means people can create Clone PS2 just like they did for PC.

Meridian should also put in for this ruling for their DVD 800 series players! They have a ROM drive, RAM for data buffering, Firmware for the unit control, RGB video out, RS232 input for firmware upgrades and remote control, Digital audio output, and a processor to control it all!! Hell! even meridians' high end DSP speakers are CPU controled!!!

Sony is a Hype machine that picks up casual gamers that want a DVD player more then a game console cause they think its "cool".

So, i was watching this movie the other night, i had no idea what it was, but it was on tv, had some guy that lived in a candy house or something, sold wonka bars or something, and i thought to myself, is the chocholate really safe to eat, i mean really! I mean, common, this kid falls in the "river of chocholate" that this man has in his house, and they still sell the chocholate, i mean, whats is up with this crap? And common, has anyone seen the movie Bambie, good movie..except he doesn't die...a wimpy dear, and he doesn't die, you've got to be kidding me! oh, and while i'm here talking to you all, don't you just hate people that go on and on about nothing, starting with some crummy movie descriptions, then they go on to tell you about the time that they lost their dog in the woods, and they went to their grandma's, and turned out she was a witch, who put a curse on that person because they found out, and it just so happened that they had a very important dance to go to the next day!, and even after all of this, they still don't find their dog, and they come home to find out that their cable has been disconected and they can't watch their favorite movie...ya, i hate people like that!
