PlayStation 4 has already sold more than 4.2 million units during the holidays, but that didn't fool Sony into forgetting PlayStation 3 and its much larger installed base.
"We believe that the [PlayStation 3] platform has a lot of life left in it," said John Koller, director of hardware marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America. "Two, three, four years; we think there's time left in the platform. It depends on the content. We have a good lineup this year and it looks like a good lineup next year. We need to keep fueling that. We really have to keep PS3 alive. And so to do that, we have to further the content. I think there will be a good story for the PS3 over the next year to two years."
Sony plans to launch PlayStation Now in Q2 2014. The service would allow PlayStation 4 owners to play PlayStation 3 on their consoles through Gaikai game streaming technology.
