Tabula Rasa To Shut Down

After 15 months in operation, Richard Garriot's Tabula Rasa will shut down on February 28, 2009.

"Tabula Rasa has some unique features that make it fun and very different from every other MMO out there," Tabula Rasa development team wrote on the game's official site. "Unfortunately, the fact is that the game hasn't performed as expected. The development team has worked hard to improve the game since launch, but the game never achieved the player population we hoped for."

Before the game's death, Tabula Rasa servers will be free to play starting on January 10, 2009.

As a farewell gift, all active Tabula Rasa players received:
• 3 free months of City of Heroes including digital client
• 3 free months of Lineage II including digital client
• Aion beta access (coming soon)
• Aion pre-order access (available in 2009)
• 1 free month of Aion including digital client (available in 2009)

Tabula Rasa To Shut Down

The sad truth is that PC gaming is dying. Every developer and publisher want a slice of the subscription gaming pie and don't care what they have to do to get it. Hence all of the MMO failures we've seen recently. The sooner we get a new and innovative regular game onto the pc the better off we'll be, until then it's console gaming all the way.

Gariott's mistake was to copy too many things from modern mmos. Ultima online still is the single greatest mmo ever made but its old and outdated. He should've stuck to his previous formula instead of going in the WoW direction.

I'm really dissapointed, this game looked downright amazing... sucks for the fans of the game... after seeing this and other really cool looking mmos die i've decided never buy an mmo until its atleast a year old, if its still alive, it'll likely last longer.. if its dead by then be glad you didnt put time into it

pc game is dieing? nah mate.. you got it all wrong.. That statement came from a few cry baby CEO's whos excuse was their games were pirated.. true but technically their games sucked which led to people not wanting to waste their money on a crappy game. According to Steam (somewhere in MG).. pc games is actually growing rapidly.
