Valve Might Charge DOTA 2 Players "Per Fun"

Valve CEO Gabe Newell revealed that DOTA 2 will be free to play, but "with a twist."

Newell explained that the current model of selling games to all users for the same price is broken. "What you really want to do is create the optimal pricing service for each customer and see what's best for them," he said. "We need to give customers, all of them, a robust set of options regarding how they pay for their content."

"An example is - and this is something as an industry we should be doing better - is charging customers based on how much fun they are to play with."

"So, in practice, a really likable person in our community should get Dota 2 for free, because of past behaviour in Team Fortress 2. Now, a real jerk that annoys everyone, they can still play, but a game is full price and they have to pay an extra hundred dollars if they want voice."

Desperation signs :D

They are loosing alot of subscribers on WoW category :D They are desperate, but you know what if they do this everyone will change to the most played free to play Dota genre game "League of Legends" Good luck with that Blizzard...

That simply removes

That simply removes personality and creates a false illusion of social skills; luring more people into the game. In essence: a community of arse-kissers.

I'm not saying this due to being "not fun to play with", I'm calling it like I see it.

bad idea - people don't like complexity

There was a study(s) showing that people actually don't like having too many choices of a product. Essentially, that's what's being added here - an extra choice that adds the possible anxiety of resulting in excessive cost. I would never play a game where the price is not clear, simple, and set out in advance of playing.

Not so cool

So those of us who don't happen to be interested in multiplayer or don't have enough friends online are just left high and dry? I think not! I'm all for free stuff, but when someone else gets something for free because of how popular they are, and I'm stuck paying for it because I don't play multiplayer, even though i may have been a long time supporter of the company selling the game, I can't help but feel slighted.

GREAT idea

I'm sure everyone is mature enough to not vote down a player that is merely better than them, thus casting him into the "jerk" category. That won't happen at all.

Idea for a failsafe.

I believe that, instead of just voting someone down, you have to provide a reason as to why you did so. That way, people who were unjustly accused can still get justice, while the real jaggoffs get charged so much they're effectively banned from the game.
