Warhammer 40K - Dawn of War Announced

THQ announced Warhammer 40,000; Dawn of War, the first real-time strategy title in its agreement with PC development studio Relic Entertainment. Based on the world of Warhammer 40,000 - the dark, futuristic, fantasy universe traveled by millions worldwide from Games Workshop, the world's largest tabletop wargames company - Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is scheduled for release in fall 2004.

Warhammer 40,000 encompasses an extremely rich universe where legions of warriors engage in intense tactical combat scenarios, the perfect backdrop for a real-time strategy experience, said Philip Holt, Vice President of Product Development, THQ. When we looked for a developer, Relic's expertise in the genre and passion for the license made them the ideal fit.

The opportunity to work directly with the creators of this highly regarded, well-traveled world was very enticing for our team, said Alex Garden, CEO at Relic. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War will bring the epic moments of the tabletop gaming experience to life with genre-defining front-line combat scenarios.

Warhammer 40K - Dawn of War Announced

FINALY a WH40K game that has the potential to make a big splash. i have been aiting for this for a very long time. the 40K universe has a lot of potential which will give Relic a lot of things to work with. i was wondering when they were gonna make something like this, since it's a pretty obvious genre to choose considering the type of game the board-game is, even though its turn based, i think an RTS would be much more epic and the battles would be proportionally bigger.hope this turns out well, and they nail the unit modeling and animation, b/c the unit designs in 40K rocks!

i played 40k for a very short while. mostly because an addicted freind talked me into it, and bought us both starter sets. building an army is pretty neat, i hope you can customize an army based on points the way you in the tabletop. the other fun thing was painting the danm things. my friend showed me how to do right and good, he had those eldar jetbike dudes with uber spears. he painted them up with the vines and thorns. it looked better than alot of 40K stuff i had seen in magazines. my space marines were pretty tight too. i think all and all most of our mini's had 12 or more layers of paint, from primer to gloss.i hope upi can do that kind of detailed work in this, todays pc's can handle it, so im pretty unimpressed with any games these days that dont utilize their potentials.

If its a mainstream RTS I think they will remove most of the complexity and details that made the turn based games so much fun, like using terrain for cover and coordinating squads to assualt a fortress etc. How do you tell them to use bolters, grenades, melee? How do you go into buildings and stuff? It will be much harder for the player to do this stuff in real time. But then again this probably isnt a proper WH40k, it is just some RTS game that is set in the WH40k universe which should be cool!

My expectations for this game are lower than my basement.Firewarrior sucked and i don't think they can release a new game so shortly after Firewarrior (suxx0rz).If they plan on releasing this thing just wait a year or 2 maybe it will be good then. (not just waiting and doing nothing but just make the game good instead of releasing 3.000.000 patches)
