This is how you unlock the rest of the single duel opponents without without having to defeat them in story mode 5 times and how to unlock tournament lvl 1 and 2. Under 1000 and they are level 1 duelists, between 1000 and 1300 and they are level 2 duelists, over 1300 and they are level 3 duelists.

To unlock... ...you have to:
Alien overlord Buy all of the Centre parts of the D Wheel
Colosal fighter Buy all of the Front parts of the D Wheel
Doom Dozer Buy all of the Rear parts of the D Wheel
E HERO Hell Gainer Play for 50 hours
Light and Darkness Dragon Play for 100 hours
Barbaros Play for 200 hours
Montage Dragon Win all 5 duel puzzles in story mode
Endymion Win all single tournaments once each
Exodios Win using Exodios' effect
E HERO Dark Gaia Use 300 Speed Spell
Horus lv 8 Use a magic card 750 times
Jinzo Ningen - Psycho Lord Use a trap card 500 times
Bryonac - Ice Dragon Boundary Synchro Summon 200 times
Judgement Dragon Special Summon 1000 times
