first off, half-life is awesome, don't talk **** if you haven't played it, graphics don't make the game. second, you don't have to pay for file planet, but you'll have to wait in like to download if you don't.

Firstly, thse graphics are absolutely awesome, and Doom3, leaves alot to be desired. Secondly, this game will be better than Doom3, no matter what. I guarantee Doom3 wont stand the test of time.... its got no multiplayer in it. It will take the most powerful machines to run in medium graphics, yet on the same machine, you could run HL2 at full settings and it will look 5x better. Besides, Doom3 was made to run in 30fps... Half Life 2 will do triple that easy...This will do as good as the first did, if not better easily.

Doom 3 requires a betta card than Ti4600 and betta puter than 1.5ghz, doom 3 is more advanced in all ways, its a fact that ID makes the best game engines, so its a fact that this game will be more advanced and not only graphically.You were only braggin how crappy puter u got, i played alpha leak on radeon 9700pro and 2.2ghz AMD with 60fps on 800x600 max details os u can f**k off... maybe thats the point, D3 is a next generation game, HL 2 is just optimized **** 4 old junk. unless you have seen the two games moving u really cant comment. so lets have less fanboys and some more productive responses. I think both look awesome but they are totally different styles. HL2 looks to ahve been made to resemble real life more with the lighting and so on. Doom 3 is made to be a very dark, intimidating shadow filled experience. I prefer the HL2 graphics for the reasons above and also because i think Doom 3 graphics are a bit plastic looking.To Screw: you quote whatever you think will get you credibility along the lines of "ive played it so there" You seem to think that graphics make a good game, your wrong. You seem to think that because HL2 will run on a lower spec machine that it is a bad engine:WRONG - if anything it means it is a far better engine. I agree, carmack makes some awesome engines, but you cant say its more advanced just cos he made it. Personally i think carmack has been done over on this one. HL2 not only in my opinion looks better, but i believe it will provide a more enjoyable, lasting experience. Carmack ahs stated that Doom 3 will be heavily scripted for just one time through, once youve played it once, there wont be much else to do. I thnk HL2's physics alone will provide more entertainment than Doom 3 in its entirity

Your comp suck or something, or your exec was ugly modificated !I have played Doom3 with my Amd2000+ with a GF2GTS PRO and I got all the way 50-70fps.(512ddr)I have tryed it with my old pc, AMD k3-450mhz with GTS pro and I got 5-25FPS.(288ram)I think DOOM3 will be "better" for real time vs HL2, but story( dunno), graphique( maybe ).But please next time you type... Doom3 require a huge computer(Cause my computer is high and run slow) please dont write it.DOOM3 engin is build for all kind of computer. They have no-choice if they want a good portion of players to "buy it". I forget to say : the map you have played on the Leak Alpha was not optimised code and he was in debug mode so on the final release you will got a more better "fps".so I laugh on people who have changed they card for a new one or all piece to play this game... gg they win :P

OMG, HL2 is god. screw the graphics (even though they are excellent on hl2 with full dx9 support and so on), physics engine just raped D3 (which will still be a good game, but seriously i doubt it can compete with hl2 for the best game award). And to the newb who said he ran D3 on k6-2 -dont talk ****, it barelly runs on P3s with geforce3 (just in lower detail), full detail according to E3 requires a power station...

i think both games (doom3 and hl2) look amazing, i shall be buying them both.

to the dude that said DooM³ has no multiplay, your wrong. both Half Life 2 and DooM³ have the same muliplayer abilities. Simple deathmatch. Thats all they are going to have. I know for a fact about DooM³ but Half Life 2 I've only heard rumour of that. Also, you cant compare their graphics, true they are both FPS games. But they are aiming for different things. DooM³ has ultra dark and moody lighting, so that creatures shadows will be cast on the walls to scare the **** outta you. Half Life 2 has much simpler lighting, so its got lighting. The Half Life 2 water is definatly better than in DooM³, probably because DooM³ doesnt have water, because its based on Mars and its moons. not alot of water there.Both games are going to be awsome in their own right. but thats the point of saying ones **** and the other is god? there is no point, proves nothing.oh and by the way. DooM³ can actually play on a GeForce 1, wont look very nice, but it can be done. The whole aimed for 30fps thing was said a few years back when DooM³ was first announced. Which technology has advanced since then, and hardware will do better than 30fps on DooM³ by release.

Cyrax i know how it works, theres no way u played it over 10+ FPS on such crap.. in this level i made to a point where it ran on 0.3FPS on my puter. + I had max everything unlike you. oh, and ya, 4x 256 PC3500 ... + guess what, i was smart enough to optimize itTo anonymus... Come on dude, i aint tellin GFX is makin the game, but it has a bear share, IT doesnt look plastic, it looks detaild, called displacement. Its same 2D dos games > 3DFX win games > Geforce and so on... this is progress and u tellin me bout gameplay? D3 has such personality programmed in every monster, just look @ their videos and they been doin it for several years already, HL 2 has done since 2002( might be wrong, deffenetly near it), but D3 was supposed to be published already in 2002. + Dont give me this HL2 will provide more entertaiment, ask my siss, she likes SIMS. First preview was not on Geforce 1, u cant even get 30 fps on a **** geforce 3. And its certanly **** if it rain on P3 or P2. D3 is about making u live it, scaring you.. u wanna play with low quality and no lights lol.. i'd like to c that

DoomIII is looking good but with Half-Life 2 you are getting a better deal. The Half-Life 2 engine will be better aswell as the story and the graphics will be better, If I wanted to run around small rooms batteling zombies what game would you perfer, half-Life of course, What about large city's with big robots and other crap... Yep you guessed it, Half-Life. Multiplayer in HL will kick *** aswell, just like the origional. Unlike DoomIII with Half-Life you will get the Level editors and source codes so you hav make your own mods easily. I like the look of both games but at the moment im going to spend my money on Half-Life 2

CyRaX, with a GF2 GTS you might get those numbers with everything on low, not to mention you don't get the per-pixel lighting as anything below the GF3 era DON'T have them.So what you proving is nothing.

To user below, I didnt touch graph resolution or "level graph".but sur I didnt put on Fsaa or AA, and what my card cannot use :PBut what I want try to explain for folks here, Doom3 can play on a good range of "PC". You dont need a "top" noch pc. They are afraid of something that other games can have something better(x) and vice versa.And personnaly, who care is HL2 is better than Doom3 or Doom3 > Hl2 ?If both put the "stardard" game in a another lv why not ?Or if Hl2 is good for story and other games good for canarge ? why not ?

So what, I didnt like HL1 so I'm almost sure I wont like HL2 cuz most sequels are not as good as the original and the fact that HL2 is taking place in a city or town just makes it even worse man. They shoulda stuck with Black Mesa like how Doom stuck on mars or whatever planet you would like to call.

btw DooM³ will ship with a built in level editor. What you see in the preview window is what you will see in game. You get full lighting and animation in the preview window as well, so lighting is a doddle. And there is almost no compiling to be done. So large levels can be made and pretty much played straight the way. It also comes with a SDK for making characters and making mods. With Half Life 2, as you can see from all the videos and screenshots, it uses light maps on the enviroments, so compile times will likely be large. Maybe not as long and painful as with HL1, but there will still be long compile times and trial and error as far as level lighting goes. One thing ive noticed in the videos of HL2 is that the enviroment shadows are going a different way to the dynamic shadows of characters and such. A mighty fine bug that is rather noticable.Both games are going to be great to play, easy to mod, and long living. The fact that with DooM³ you can pump out levels easier and faster, doesnt mean much since making characters is going to be extreemly difficult. Since the 10,000+ poly bump models. Where as with Half Life 2, the models should be easier in comparison.

Well, you may not have touched anything CyRaX, but that means Doom III defaulted everything to low probely(sp). What your sayings is that your GF2 is beating a GF3 which has pixel-shaders, its not going to happen.

Oh, and Anonymous, Doom III has very low poly models, what your seeing is the bump-mapping that is being used to give a 'high-poly' look. Deux-Ex 2 is using a similar technic(sp) too. HL2 has VERY complex models which have BONES,MUSCLES,CLOTHES,40 MUSCLES in the face, and PERFECT lip sincing. For the lip scincing(sp) all oyu need is a .wav file and the engine does it itself.LOWDOWN:DoomIII:Better lighting (on average)Models not as complex and ****** AI (Quake 3 AI used)HL2:complex models with what I stated above.COMPLEX AI that figures out what to do, THERE IS NO SCRIPTED EVENTS! The AI finds ways into buildings when you block doors, throws objects at you and will dynamically figure out how to get around the gameworld on its own. (Watch the 600mb movie to get the real **** on this)This post looks like **** but whatever :)
