Airfix Dogfighter

Remember when you a little kid, and you used to have mock air battles with little toy planes. How much fun was that? But they were always missing something. Sure you could make explosion noises and throw the models down the stairs to imitate crashes, but the fire and the smoke element was always missing. I mean sure, there were airplanes that shot plastic missiles, but only the rich kids had them (damn rich kids). But if you wanted fire, or real explosions, you had to look to movies (or get grounded for the holes in the wall). But even in movies, you never really controlled the action.

But now Airfix Dogfighter is going to change all that. Developed by Paradox Entertainment along with extensive modeling help from famous London miniature model company, Airfix, this new game promises to be a dream come true for dogfighting enthusiasts.

The game will take place in a 12 room mansion and you will play as one of either the Allies or the Axis in miniature toy planes à la Toy Story. But fortunately for those of us who find flight sims too daunting, Dogfighter will be far more simple. You will only have to worry about altitude, fuel, weapons and speed. That's it. The battle fields will be the various rooms of the house from the naval yards (bathroom) to the parents bedroom, and every room is completely modeled by normal furniture. However, because Dogfighter is not a serious flight sim, there are various power-ups and bonuses that you can pick up along the way. But watch out, they are not always placed in the easiest places.

Playing in the missions you will have to worry about other enemies and even the walls, cause running into those means instant death. Types of missions will include anything from air strikes, to dogfights, to espionage missions where you will have to steal materials to build new planes.

The planes will be modeled after real WWII aircraft, and from the screenshots they look incredible. There will be planes like the Messerscgnutt Me262 and the Mitsubishi A6M Zero. But look out below, cause you will also go up against other vehicles sucks has the U995 Submarine and the HMS Belfast.

There will also be many types of weapons that you can equip your plane with. They include: A-bombs, paramines, normal bombs, homing missiles, rockets, cannons, machine guns, and some futuristic weapons such as the tesla coil and the particle beam. Of couse these will leave lovely explosions and burn marks on the walls and floor of the house (lucky tenants).

In addition to the single player game there will also be a multiplayer game which promises to be almost too much fun. Dogfighting with your buddies over the net… wow! Of course capture the flag can be a part of the multiplayer game, but most people will just enjoy the dogfighting. The game also features a house and plane editor, so expect new houses and skins to be popping up on the net every few days.

Airfix Dogfighter is what many model enthusiasts have been dreaming of. The ability to have way more fun with your planes than is possible in your normal life. If Paradox can manage to pull this off, look for Dogfighter to be a surprise hit this winter.
