American McGee is turning to Kickstarter to raise funds to continue development of his latest action RPG, Akaneiro: Demon Hunters.

The game has been in development Shanghai-based studio Spicy Horse since 2011. It entered closed beta last November and open beta is planned for later this month (January 2013).

The game is nearly finished, but American McGee hopes to secure $200,000 through Kickstarter to allow him to add more features and to support Android and iOS in addition to the existing PC and Mac versions. The most prominent features to be added include co-op multiplayer, multiplayer, equipment crafting system and improved community support.

"We've come a long way with a relatively small (but passionate) team. Unfortunately, we've reached the limit of what our resources allow, but the game has not reached the limits of awesome we're determined to hit. We want to be able to commit the time and team members we need to add vital missing features and apply proper polish," said American McGee on the game's Greenlight page.

At the time of writing, Akaneiro: Demon Hunters secured more than $35,000 with 26 days to go.
