Blizzard scrambles to add more Classic servers to fix login wait times

Blizzard's warnings of long wait times for those hoping to play World of Warcraft Classic weren't misplaced. Now that the game is out and playable by anyone, Wow Classic fans have been faced with multiple hour wait times just to get onto their server of choice. Blizzard has been trying to fix the issue by adding new servers every few hours which is helping to ease the load, but it's not going to be enough to fix it completely.

This is being reported on by a number of fans, but one clearly encapsulated example is PCGamer's report, which showed that there are more than 8,500 players ahead of them in their particular queue at one point. That left them with a wait time that was estimated to be anywhere from half an hour to an hour and a half.

For that wait time to go down, players already in the realm will need to leave, which seems unlikely to happen. If you've waited that long to get in, you're going to play for a while, or even find a way for your character to idle without getting kicked off so that you don't have such a massive wait next time.

To give you some idea of the scale of this (re)launch of Azeroth as it was back in 2004, more than two million people registered character names that they hoped to bring into the game. Not all of those players will get into the game (certainly not with wait times as they are) but that is more than the average WoW expansion brings back to the game.

With more than a million people watching others play WoW Classic too, there's no denying that it's drummed up a tonne of interest. Whether that interest will remain in the weeks and months to come, remains to be seen.
