The reason behind the plethora of technical problems that plagued Deep Silver's Dead Island is quite simple and a little embarrassing: Deep Silver released an "incorrect version."

Lucky for them though, the faulty release was on Steam only, so it would be relatively easy to fix.

"We deeply regret that an incorrect version of Dead Island was inadvertently made available to players on Steam launch in North America," Deep Silver spokesperson Aubrey Norris said.

According to players and reviewers, the technical problems found in the incorrect version of the game include frequent game freezes and crashes, graphical issues, and odd in-game behavior such as walking through walls.
