Blizzard is a relatively polarising company. For some it's seen as a great company that not only innovates, but listens to its fans when creating up and coming titles. Others see it as a money grubbing MMO relic that's leeching the life from a once great property.
If you're in the latter camp, you're unlikely to think differently of it after hearing this latest story, but everyone else can at least get a little excited. It looks like Blizzard is currently looking to port Warcraft one and two to modern PCs.
This was revealed at the recent Blizzcon 2013, where one fan asked whether those titles that helped make Blizzard into a household name, would ever appear in the modern gaming environment? This was answered by World of Warcraft director or production, J Brack, who said:
So, we actually have a guy on our team — actually several guys on our team — who are actually working on a side project to do something like that in some form or fashion," Brack said. "We're fans of Warcraft 1, Warcraft 2, Warcraft 3, and we'd love to replay those games for sure."
While he obviously loves the world, "actually" Brack may have had a big announcement spoiled by this question, but it's certainly something that could excite early strategy gamers that remember Orcs and Humans and the Tides of Darkness fondly.
Were any of you big strategy gamers back in the day? I cut my teeth on map making with Warcraft II, though it's been a long time since I really put much effort into one.
