Final Fantasy VIII is getting a PC remaster

Square Enix has finally taken the blinkers off in the past couple of years and realized what a massive revenue stream it's been sitting on in the form of potential remasters of some of its most popular Final Fantasy games from years gone by. Following on from the announcement that Final Fantasy VII was being remastered, and re-envisioned, we've now learned that Final Fantasy VIII is going to be given a fresh coat of paint too.

This isn't the full scale recreation that we're seeing with FFVII, though, but a remastering that gives everything a resolution lift, as well as porting the game to all new systems, including PC, Switch, Xbox One, and PS4. There's no news yet on whether we'll see the kind of cloud saves and experience boosters that have been present on some remastered ports in the past, but what we do know is that everything looks that little bit cleaner in the new version.

"Coming in 2019, FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered marks the 20th Anniversary of its original release with a new visual refresh and brings the game’s beloved story to modern platforms: Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. With overhauled visuals, see your favorite characters come to life like never before!" Square said in a statement.

Expect Final Fantasy VIII to see its full remaster released sometime later this year.
