No Annual Need For Speed Title For The First Time In 13 Years

Electronic Arts has released at least one Need For Speed title each year since 2001. This streak has finally been on pause for one year.

In a conference call yesterday EA CEO Andrew Wilson told the shareholders that no new Need For Speed titles will be released during the 2015 fiscal year in order to give Ghost Games the time needed to create an outstanding game.

"Ghost Games in Gothenburg is working on an innovative new chapter of this storied franchise," he said. "We’ve planned an extended development window to ensure we’re delivering a high-quality experience for Need for Speed players next year."

Ghost Games released Need For Speed Rivals in November 2013. Shortly after, the entire UK branch of the studio was laid off in February 2014. At the time, it was reported that the new Need For Speed title development was put on hold while the layoffs and ensuing restructuring were sorted out.
