Nearly five months in PlayStation 4's life, Sony announced that its console has sold 7 million units to customers by April 6th, 2014. On the other hand Microsoft withheld Xbox One's sales figures, noting that it has shipped 5 million units to retailers during the same period.
It is reasonable to interpret that Xbox One has sold 3 to 4 million units to end users. If that is true, it means that PlayStation 4 is outselling Xbox One 2 to 1.
Sony also announced that 20 million copies of PlayStation 4 software have been sold across digital and retail channels.
Sidestepping comparison to PS4 market performance, Microsoft pointed out that Xbox One sales are outpacing those of Xbox 360 by 60% at the same point in its lifespan.
