Wii Production Discontinued In Europe

Nintendo confirmed today that the original Wii will no longer produced for European markets.

According to the company, European customers who wish to play Wii games can buy Wii Mini or Wii U. Wii Mini is a cheaper trimmed down version of Wii without backwards compatibility and downloadable titles support while Wii U is the console's relatively-powerful successor.

"Wii imports to Europe have been discontinued," a Nintendo UK representative confirmed. "However, there are still a variety of options for consumers to enjoy Wii games and the Wii gameplay experience. Wii U, which is Nintendo's latest home console, is backwards compatible with nearly all existing Wii games and accessories ... when you switch to Wii Mode on Wii U."

Wii production has been discontinued in Japan earlier. For the time being, it seems that other markets are still not affected.
