Xbox One Reputation System Detailed

Microsoft Senior Product Manager Mike Lavin has detailed Xbox One’s reputation system which aims to prevent bullies from ruining games for the rest of the players.

Simply out, the reputation system will match repeat offenders with other trouble makers and away from other players.

"There'll be very good things that happen to people that just play their games and are good participants," explained Lavin. "And you'll start to see some effects if you continue to play bad or harass other people en masse. You'll probably end up starting to play more with other people that are more similar to you."

Each player’s reputation score is calculated over time in order to ensure that the system can’t be manipulated by a group of players to lower an innocent player’s reputation.

"If we see consistently that people, for instance, don't like playing with you, that you're consistently blocked, that you're the subject of enforcement actions because you're sending naked pictures of yourself to people that don't want naked pictures of you," exclaimed Lavin. "Blatant things like that have the ability to quickly reduce your reputation score."

The system has no effect on people in friends list. It affects anonymous match-making only.
