Electronic Arts said Friday it closed a deal with Universal Pictures to bring its video game Army of Two to the big screen.

Scott Stuber, through his Stuber Productions shingle, will produce the film along with EA, and screenwriter Scott Z. Burns, who co-wrote "The Bourne Ultimatum," has signed on to adapt the game for the screen.

The game follows a pair of former Army soldiers turned mercanaries that seek to topple a conspiracy to privatize the U.S. military.

The game's hallmark is the use of two-man tactics, whether it is two human players or a human player and a computer-controlled partner. The two character must work together to achieve goals within the game.

Universal Pictures, Stuber Productions and EA are planning to begin production of the film in 2009.

EA said Army of Two grossed more $100 million in sales since its release in March 2008 and is the second film project the company is using in a strategy to move its IP across more entertainment platforms.
