The Prince of Persia makes his way home to Babylon, bearing with him Kaileena, the enigmatic Empress of Time, and unspeakable scars from the Island of Time. But instead of the peace he longs for, he finds his kingdom ravaged by war and Kaileena the target of a brutal plot. When she is kidnapped, the Prince tracks her to the Palace - only to see her murdered by a powerful enemy. Her death unleashes the Sands of Time, which strike the Prince and threaten to destroy everything he holds dear. Cast to the streets, hunted as a fugitive, the Prince soon discovers that the Sands have tainted him, too. They have given rise to a deadly Dark Prince, whose spirit gradually possesses him….
Who is the Dark Prince?
The Dark Prince is a corrupt version of the Prince who has been infected by the Sands of Time. He is a personification of The Prince's darker personality traits: ruthless, reckless, and inconsiderate. But it's still The Prince...
He is extremely violent (he takes great pleasure in brutal combat), rude, and completely lacking in morals. However, since he's derived from The Prince, he's quite clever in his cruelty. Think of him as the little devil on The Prince's shoulder. If he wants The Prince to listen to him, he's got to be a little bit charming.
Where does he come from?
Early on in the story, The Prince is struck by the Sands of Time without any form of protection. At the last minute, he is saved from transforming completely into a Sand Monster. But he finds himself corrupted by the Sands. Think of it as in infection. Over time, and without treatment, it will spread - until he is consumed entirely. This creates a state of constant tension. The Prince must focus his energy on slowing the spread of the Sands through his body, and every time he loses focus, the Sands will gain more ground, further corrupting him.
As The Prince progressively becomes a Sand Monster, he begins to take on the personality of a Sand Monster (greedy, evil, conniving). This is the Dark Prince. And though technically he did not exist before The Prince's exposure - he's been around as long as our hero has. He's just sat quietly in the background…
What is the Dark Prince's goal?
The Dark Prince is driven by fury and greed: he wants revenge over the mysterious enemy who has attacked Babylon and stolen his throne.
Or at least that's what he tells the Prince
What's his relationship with the Prince?
The Prince and the Dark Prince share the same body; they don't have a choice but to cooperate. Moreover, they have complementary skills that the player will have to use in order to progress in the game.
Even though The Dark Prince can be very skeptical and sarcastic about the Prince in their conversation, he can also be quite helpful. He will often provide the Prince with advice and direction, helping to keep him focused on the mission at hand.
What is specific about the Dark Prince gameplay?
Although the Dark Prince and the Prince share the same athletic and fighting abilities, their gameplay are different and complementary.
In terms of combat style, The Dark Prince is reckless and furious!
He fights with the Daggertail, a powerful chain-like mid-range weapon with which he will be able to perform spectacular grabs, direct attacks and combos. He also uses the Dagger of Time for close combat, mostly as a mean to finish his enemies after a deadly Daggertail attack. His combat system is based on the Free Form Fighting System from Warrior Within which emphasizes the player's creativity in combat. Now it's taken a step further by the new set of moves available to the Dark Prince.
The Dark Prince will also use the new Speed kill System we've been creating for POP T2T. This system will allow you to perform very dramatic moves that will take your enemy down in a single shot. The Dark Prince Speed Kill System will reflect his furious and brutal personality in every way: from its unique control system to its animations or the violence of his finishing moves
The Daggertail is not only a deadly weapon. The Dark Prince will also use it to manoeuvre in his environment in a very efficient and acrobatic way to access places the Prince cannot.
How do you switch from the Dark Prince to the Prince?
The switch between the two Princes will take the form of sudden crisis that turns the Prince into the Dark Prince. In order to calm these moments of crises and return back to his "normal" self, the Prince will need to seek out the healing properties of the Water Of Life, familiar to any fans of the previous Prince of Persia titles.
