The dark, ominous objects were barely discernible against the angry Caribbean sea, but Christopher's eyes were young and keen and spotted them with ease. As the ships drew closer the threat became clear. "Pirates!" Christopher's father cried, but these were no common rovers. The impending doom creeping toward the misty isle of Inez Sound was none other than the Devil's Tines, a notoriously bloodthirsty fleet of murderers, convicts and deserters. The pirates raised the lonely village, leaving only one alive- the boy Christopher Raven, who had been maimed and left with only one hand along with a burning hatred for the men responsible for slaying his kin.
