The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt True Volumetric Light Mod v0.2
November 4, 2026 - 8:25a.m.
Picture the sun sinking behind the trees of Velen, with haze hanging in the air. The Witcher 3 supplies the haze, but the light still never cuts through it. The True Volumetric Light mod fixes that as a ReShade add-on, lighting the fog wherever the game’s own shadows fall. As a result, sunbeams line up with every tree, tower, and fence.
What You Get
- TrueVolumetricLight: Delivers the mod as a 299KB archive holding TrueVolumetricLight.addon64 plus a TrueVolumetricLight Ordner.
- Real Light Shafts: Builds beams from the game’s actual shadows, so they follow every tree, arch, and bridge.
- Darker Shade: Darkens the air in shadow instead of piling glare on top, so contrast holds.
- Weather and Time Awareness: Reads weather and time of day, so noon brings thin haze, sunset brings golden beams, and rain brings almost nothing.
- Fire Glow: Lights the haze around torches, campfires, and lanterns in their own warm color, even the torch in Geralt’s hand.
- Dust Motes: Floats tiny specks near you that catch sunbeams, firelight, and faint moonlight, and a slider turns them off.
- Settings Tab: Opens in the ReShade menu, with a toggle key, density and height sliders, and four quality levels.
- TrueVolumetricLight Companion: Adds an optional file that tells the mod when Geralt steps indoors, so indoor settings switch exactly at the door. It also fixes startup crashes that other add-ons trigger.
Is It Worth It?
Haze that reacts to shadow makes every forest road and city street look more alive. The cost stays light, at about 0.45 ms per frame on the default High setting. Since NVIDIA cards have seen most of the testing, AMD and Intel players may hit rough edges.
Setting It Up
- Lade den Mod herunter und entpacke das Archiv auf deinem PC.
- Check that you run the next-gen version of the game in DirectX 12, since DirectX 11 does not work.
- Installieren Sie ReShade 6 with full add-on support for bin\x64_dx12\witcher3.exe, and pick DirectX 10/11/12.
- Extract the archive into your game folder. Then check that TrueVolumetricLight.addon64 und die TrueVolumetricLight folder now sit next to witcher3.exe in bin\x64_dx12.
- If you want the optional companion, download it too, then copy its Mülleimer und Mods folders into your game folder.
- Launch the game, since the effect switches on by default.
- To tweak anything, press Startseite to open the ReShade menu and go to the True Volumetric Light tab.
- Zum Deinstallieren löschen Sie TrueVolumetricLight.addon64 und die TrueVolumetricLight folder from bin\x64_dx12. If you added the companion, delete TrueVolumetricLight.asi from the same folder, then delete the modTrueVolumetricLight folder from Mods.

- It works with Fog Remastered, W3 Clouds, Dynamic Fog, and The Living Continent, plus DLSS, FSR, and frame generation.
- RenoDX and OptiScaler setups both work too, and your other ReShade effects keep running.
- If you raise the Density slider in Fog Remastered a lot, lower the Density slider here a bit.
- Beams come from the sun and the moon, mountains block them, and clouds do not cast beams yet.
- Fire shadows stay experimental and off by default, so a moving torch can leave a short trail.
- The timings come from an RTX 5080 at 3440×1440, from 0.20 ms on Low to 0.63 ms on Ultra.
