RAM prices are still crashing

It wasn't that long ago that we wrote about how now (then) was the time to buy RAM as prices had fallen to respectable levels for the first time in nearly two years. Well it looks like you may be on the right track to buy new memory at an affordable price for some time to come. RAM prices continue to fall to the point that even high-powered 32GB kits of DDR4 memory can be found for not far north of $200.

PCGamer has a solid breakdown of how prices have changed over the past few months. It looked specifically at a kit of 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3000 memory that was priced at more than $320 in September 2017 and could now be had for $225. That same kit in a 16GB configuration is just $110, and if you aren't as concerned about speed, you can get an LPX 16GB kit for as little as $90.

That's a 40 percent price drop for memory in all sizes in just six months. With production now way above demand and the upcoming DDR5 standard likely to set the bar high for memory cost, DDR4 and DDR3 are likely to stay cheap and get even cheaper in the months to come.

As PCGamer reports, the current demand is not keeping up with the supply side of things and though cheaper prices might drive some demand from consumers, it won't make a huge difference to OEMs. Their prices may come down a little in turn, but none of it is expected to truly dampen the free fall memory pricing has entered recently.

Have you upgraded your memory recently, or do you plan to do so later this year?
