Gears of War: E-Day
Gears of War: E-Day is a third-person cover shooter developed by The Coalition and published by Xbox Game Studios. It releases on October 6, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam, Microsoft Store). The game is an Xbox console exclusive with no PlayStation 5 version and is available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. It serves as a prequel set fourteen years before the original Gears of War, depicting Emergence Day — the moment the Locust Horde first erupted from below ground.
Über das Spiel
Gears of War: E-Day tells the origin story of the Locust War, following a young Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago during the catastrophic first hours of the Emergence. Built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, the game marks a deliberate return to the horror and dread that defined the original trilogy. Furthermore, the story is set in a new city called Kalona, experienced over three intense days as the Locust tear it apart. That focused three-day structure gives the campaign a tighter, more personal feel than recent entries.
Two new Bravo Squad members — Mags Carter and Lucas Reyes — join Marcus and Dom, expanding the cast while keeping the emotional core on the founding partnership. The game also reimagines the Horde mode as Horde Siege, a bigger and bolder PvE wave survival experience, alongside refined competitive 4v4 Versus PvP. Additionally, the game targets 4K resolution at up to 60 FPS across both campaign and multiplayer. Premium Edition buyers get five days of early access starting October 1.
Wesentliche Merkmale
Emergence Day Origin Story
The campaign depicts the first three days of the Locust War as Marcus and Dom experience them in real time. That tight timeline creates a sense of urgency and escalating catastrophe. Furthermore, playing the founding moment of the entire Gears saga gives the story immediate weight for series fans. It fills in the most significant gap in the franchise’s lore.
Return to Horror and Dread
The Coalition deliberately restored the fear and tension of the original trilogy. Familiar enemies have been made more threatening and new creatures join them. As a result, the game is designed to feel genuinely dangerous rather than power-fantasy driven. That tonal shift is the game’s defining creative statement.
Horde Siege Mode
The reimagined Horde Siege is a larger and bolder take on Gears’ iconic cooperative wave survival mode. It supports multiple players against escalating Locust assaults. Moreover, Horde Siege expands on the original concept with new objectives and a bigger battlefield. It is positioned as a significant co-op offering alongside the campaign.
Unreal Engine 5 Foundation
The game is built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, enabling high visual fidelity at 4K and up to 60 FPS. Hardware ray-traced lighting, reflections, and shadows are supported. In addition, the game supports ultrawide monitors, uncapped frame rates on PC, and HDR10. That technical foundation gives the series its most impressive visual presentation yet.
