Palworld Just Beat Its Own Odds. Here’s How Close It Came to 2024 Levels
Game: Palworld | Entwickler/Herausgeber: Pocketpair | Plattformen: PC (Steam), Xbox, PlayStation 5, Xbox Game Pass, Mac | Preis: $29.99 (unchanged) | Update: Version 1.0, build 1.100.427 | Datum der Veröffentlichung: July 10, 2026
Palworld’s full 1.0 release has triggered a massive resurgence in player activity, with concurrent Steam numbers climbing to more than 855,000 within days of launch. That figure places Palworld inside Steam’s all-time top 15 concurrent player counts for the second time, alongside its own 2.1-million-player record from January 2024, making it the only game to appear twice on that list.
How the Numbers Climbed After Launch
Palworld’s 1.0 update went live on July 10, 2026, exiting Steam Early Access after two and a half years. Within roughly two hours, more than 220,000 players were active simultaneously. That number kept climbing through the weekend: by July 11, concurrent players had passed 719,000, and by July 12 and 13, the figure reached a peak of 855,525.
That peak sits just below Baldur’s Gate 3’s all-time record of 875,343 concurrent players and above Battlefield 6’s peak of 747,440. It’s still far short of Palworld’s own historic high of just over 2.1 million, which remains the third-highest concurrent count ever recorded on Steam. Even so, Palworld ranked second in global Steam sales during launch weekend, an unusually strong result for a title well past its initial hype cycle.
What’s Actually in the 1.0 Update
Pocketpair didn’t treat 1.0 as a symbolic finish line. The update ships with patch notes running roughly 27 pages and more than 10,000 words, among the largest single updates the game has received.
- New content: 72 additional Pals, plus the long-teased World Tree endgame zone and a new Sunreach region
- Progression systems: A raised level cap of 80, along with new Awakening and Mutation mechanics for existing Pals
- Combat additions: 13 new weapons, reworked Tower Boss encounters, and new wave-based raid content
- Mobility: The Wing Pack gear item, which frees up a Pal party slot previously used for aerial travel
Notably, Pocketpair confirmed the price would stay at $29.99 for the full release, calling the decision a small way of thanking the community. The studio also restructured the main story to connect exploration, Tower Bosses, and the World Tree into a single coherent progression path, rather than leaving them as separate systems. Players updating from earlier versions are advised to remove any installed mods first to avoid compatibility issues.
The Nintendo Lawsuit, Explained Briefly
No account of Palworld’s 1.0 launch is complete without addressing the patent lawsuit Nintendo and The Pokémon Company filed against Pocketpair in September 2024. The suit targeted specific mechanics, primarily the act of throwing a device to capture a creature and later summoning it back out for traversal, rather than any copyright claim over Palworld’s visual similarities to Pokémon.
Since then, the case has narrowed considerably. In November 2025, Nintendo amended its claims to cover only older Palworld versions that predate patches removing the contested mechanics. The US Patent Office separately rejected all 26 claims in Nintendo’s key summoning patent in April 2026. Patent analyst Florian Mueller, who has reviewed the public court record, estimates maximum possible damages at roughly $62,000 combined for both plaintiffs, a negligible sum next to a game that has sold tens of millions of copies. No injunction has been granted, and Palworld remains available on every platform without restriction. A Tokyo court is expected to signal its preliminary view on November 9, 2026.
Bottom Line
Palworld was never going to repeat its once-in-a-generation 2.1 million peak from early access, and it hasn’t. What it has done is prove the game can still draw a massive audience nearly two and a half years later, on the strength of new content and a held-steady price rather than hype alone. With the Nintendo lawsuit reduced to a minor financial footnote, Pocketpair heads into its post-1.0 era with a genuinely rare second wind.
