Mass Effect: Andromeda is developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. It released on March 21, 2017, for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Set generations after the original trilogy, the game sends players to the Andromeda Galaxy as the Pathfinder, tasked with finding humanity a new home in a hostile, unfamiliar frontier.

Andromeda reworks the Mass Effect formula around open-world exploration. As Pathfinder, players travel between multiple planets in the Nomad, a new all-terrain vehicle, scouting resources and establishing outposts across the Helios Cluster. Combat blends third-person shooting with biotic and tech powers, and a new profile system lets players freely mix combat styles rather than locking into a single class for the whole campaign.

Conversations use the same radial dialogue wheel from earlier entries, but with four response types instead of the old Paragon/Renegade axis, letting choices feel more nuanced and less binary. Since this is a standalone story rather than a Shepard sequel, Andromeda avoids returning characters and lore ties, instead building an entirely new cast around the crew of the Tempest and the challenges of colonizing a new galaxy.
