Sony: Backward Compatibility Is Not Coming Back To PS3

A lot of Playstation 3 fans were hoping that the Playstation 3 Slim would reintroduce PS2 backward compatibility to Sony's console; unfortunately, Sony has made it clear that this isn't the case – and never will.

"[Backwards compatibility is] not coming back," John Koller, Sony's director of hardware marketing said. "So let me put that on the table. But it's all people ever talk about!"

Koller then explained that backward compatibility is " not as big as a purchase intent driver as you may be hearing. We've got such a substantial lineup of titles on the PS3; most people are buying the PS3 for PS3 games. They've been buying it for PS3 games and Blu-ray movies. That won't be returning."
