Death is a tool in Valor Mortis, because William returns from the grave carrying a plague that both powers him and corrupts the soldiers around him. One More Level, the studio behind Ghostrunner, turned that idea into a first-person Soulslike set in a supernatural Napoleonic Europe.

William drops his Catalysts where he dies, then spends them at Lanterns to raise health, stamina, and parry. Napoleon’s Eternal Guard hits hard, and William also carries a pistol, a blunderbuss, and a rifle alongside his blades.
