Developed by the solo indie studio Blobfish, Brotato originally sprouted into PC Early Access in late 2022 before receiving its massive 1.0 release in June 2023. You play as a heavily armed potato who survives a spaceship crash on a hostile alien world. Rather than retreating, this solitary spud must utilize up to six weapons simultaneously to hold off relentless waves of enemies until rescue arrives. Consequently, it delivers one of the most mechanically deep and satisfying takes on the modern auto-shooter genre.
Core Gameplay

Wave-Based Survival: The gameplay is contained entirely within a small, static, square arena. You must survive 20 distinct waves of incoming aliens, with each round lasting anywhere from 20 to 90 seconds. Because your weapons fire automatically by default, your primary focus is entirely on tight movement and dodging massive swarms.
Deep Class Customization: The true brilliance of the game lies in its roster. You can unlock dozens of highly specialized potatoes, such as a Mage who thrives on elemental damage or a Pacifist who wins purely by avoiding combat and harvesting resources. Therefore, every single run demands a completely different strategic approach.
Weapon Synergies: Between waves, you spend the alien currency you collected in a randomized shop. You can stack identical weapons, like buying two level-one shotguns to merge them into a more powerful level-two variant. Furthermore, discovering bizarre synergies—like combining flaming sausages with rocket launchers—creates incredibly broken, satisfying builds.
Accessibility and Difficulty: The game respects the player’s time perfectly. Not only are successful runs completed in under 30 minutes, but you can deeply tweak the difficulty sliders to adjust enemy speed, health, and damage.
