Microsoft looks set to buy up another game development studio with a number of sources pointing towards a near-complete acquisition of classic RPG developer, Obsidian Entertainment, along with its flagship properties like Pillars of Eternity and Pathfinder.
As is typical for Microsoft, its statement doesn't tell us much:
"We do not comment on rumors or speculation," it said.
An Obsidian spokesperson provided more of a tongue-in-cheek response to Kotaku's request for more information about the story:
"Unfortunately, we don’t comment on rumors or speculation other than to say that the Rumors album by Fleetwood Mac still holds up," they said.
Despite the relatively clandestine nature of these supposed acquisition talks, a number of sources suggest it to be very much happening and as much as 90 percent complete. That should be good news for Obsidian fans, as though the company has produced some stellar games in its time -- Neverwinter Nights 2, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and Fallout: New Vegas -- but it has struggled with financing over the years, often turning to Kickstarter to fund its new projects.
With Microsoft backing it, that will be unlikely to be the case any longer.
