Incense:

When you are not able to move you will need to use lures such as incense to attract Pokemon to you. To do this just tap the Pokeball at the bottom of the screen and select ‘Items’ followed by ‘Incense’. A purple ring around your avatar will show you it’s in effect.
Revives and Potions:

It has been noted that PokeStops that are national landmarks give revives or potions more frequently.
Extra Experience Bonus:

You can earn an extra experience bonus when thowing a Pokeball by putting a curve on it before you throw it. This is done by swiping at the ball in a circle at high speed so you get it to spin.
Lucky Eggs:

You can double the amount of experience you get for 30 minutes by spending real money and purchasing Lucky Eggs from the in-game store.
AR:

You can make capturing Pokemon easier by turning off the AR. Doing this will switch off the camera and stabilise the Pokemon in the center of your screen making throwing and hitting them with a Pokeball far easier.
Pokeballs:

Use the special Pokeballs you earn as your Trainer levels up to capture rarer Pokemon. A good strategy is use berries to lull the wild Pokemon into a false sense of security before attempting to snatch them up in a Pokeball.
Ring Colour:

Remember when trying to catch Pokemon that the colour of the ring that surrounds them indicates how hard it will be for you to capture it. The colour of the rings and their difficulty level is as follows.
Green Ring:

Easy.
Yellow Ring:

Moderate.
Red Ring:

Difficult.
Alternate Revive Method:

Leveling up a Pokemon when you do not have or do not want to use a Revive will give a Pokemon 2 more max hp. This means the fainted Pokemon will now be revived and have 2 hp.
Unlock Items:

When you reach the indicated level the corresponding item will become unlocked.
