This remaster rebuilds the acclaimed 2015 RPG with sweeping visual and performance upgrades. Rather than a simple resolution bump, CD Projekt Red overhauled lighting, textures, and ray tracing support throughout. Both major expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, now ship directly with the base game. Consequently, players get the full story across Geralt’s original journey and its two additional regions in one package. Since the update arrives as a free upgrade for existing owners, longtime fans can jump back in without paying again.
Beyond visuals, the remaster also modernizes technical performance for current hardware. For example, upscaling technology and improved ray tracing weren’t available when the game first launched in 2015. Furthermore, these improvements arrive ahead of Songs of the Past, a full third expansion planned for 2027. In that story, Geralt travels to the peaceful realm of Letten to uncover dark secrets hidden beneath its surface. Overall, the base game’s reputation, backed by over 250 Game of the Year awards and 65 million copies sold, sets a high bar for this remaster to build on.
