Meanwhile, CD Projekt itself remains almost entirely focused elsewhere. The Witcher 4 is now in full production and will mark the series’ first game built on Unreal Engine 5. The studio has also outlined an ambitious six-year roadmap that includes The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6, meaning Songs of the Past functions as a bridge project rather than a distraction from that larger plan.

Setting Real Expectations

CD Projekt has said the expansion will match the scope of Blood and Wine, the acclaimed second Witcher 3 expansion. Blood and Wine added an entire new region, Toussaint, along with dozens of hours of new content back in 2016. That comparison sets a high bar, especially for a studio juggling multiple other projects at once.

Keighley has said viewers will get “a first look” at the expansion during Gamescom’s opening show. It’s still unclear whether that means a story trailer or actual gameplay footage.
