AETHUS blends underground mining with surface-level base building, all wrapped around a story-driven premise rather than pure sandbox survival. Players use lasers, explosives, drills, and other tools to gather hundreds of different resources beneath their claim, then refine and craft those materials into new equipment topside. A modular building system lets players design their own mining operations hub from scratch, filled with dozens of refining, processing, and crafting stations.
Beyond raw resource gathering, players grow plants, raise fish, and prospect for gems in cozy habitats that can be decorated with almost anything found along the way. Maeve’s suit and her loyal AI drone companion both receive upgrades over time, letting players push deeper and further into the mining claim’s unexplored depths. With story built into every layer of progression, players can shape the experience toward a laid-back exploration pace or a tougher, more hardcore survival challenge, all while uncovering the dark secrets the corporation would rather keep buried.
