PHYSINT is an action-espionage game from Hideo Kojima and his studio, Kojima Productions. PlayStation Studios stepped away from the project in June 2026. Xbox then stepped in as the new publisher, and Kojima says development continues.

What’s Confirmed So Far

Announcement: Kojima Productions revealed PHYSINT in January 2024 as a brand-new IP. PlayStation backed the project at that point.
Genre : Kojima calls it a genre-defining action-espionage title. He has also described it as the culmination of his work after nearly 40 years in game development.
PlayStation Exit: Kojima says the studio received notice in mid-June that PlayStation Studios would cancel the project. PlayStation later said it made a difficult decision to step away, and it praised Kojima’s vision.
Xbox Deal: Xbox confirmed on September 10 that it will publish the game. Kojima says his team spent three months searching for a new partner before choosing Xbox.
Film and Television: The Xbox announcement also says both sides plan to work together on film and television projects.
Existing Partnership: Xbox and Kojima Productions already work together on OD, so PHYSINT expands that relationship.


Why the Publisher Switch Matters
The change came unusually late in the project’s life, and it followed months of silence. PlayStation and Xbox posted their statements within minutes of each other. As a result, fans got the cancellation news and the rescue in a single day.
Kojima also stressed that the project matters deeply to him and to his studio. Consequently, the move reads as a rescue rather than a restart. Still, both companies have kept the public details short.
