Originally announced during a PlayStation Showcase in September 2021, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake has become one of the most mysterious projects in modern gaming. Initially developed by Aspyr Media before shifting to Saber Interactive, fans have spent years wondering if the project was quietly canceled. However, in early March 2026, Saber Interactive’s Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits finally broke the silence, officially confirming to IGN that the highly anticipated RPG is still in active development.

Development Turbulence: The remake’s production has been notoriously rocky. After starting at Aspyr Media, the project was reportedly paused indefinitely in 2022 before moving completely over to Saber Interactive. Recent reports from late 2025 even suggested that Mad Head Games might now be heavily involved, indicating a massive internal restructuring. Therefore, the game we eventually see might look radically different from the original pitch.
Current Status: Despite the development shifts, Saber Interactive remains adamant that the game is moving forward.
