Intel Announces Massive Price Cuts

Intel has announced massive price cuts across its range of processors in an attempt to fight-off rival AMD and promote its four core chips. The cuts range from 6 to 40 per cent and mainly affect the Core 2 family of processors.

The company's flagship, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, chip has seen its price drop by 38 per cent to USD 530, a much more affordable price than the previous of USD 851. The low end Core 2 Duo E4300 will now cost USD 113 while its high-end counterpart will now be 40 per cent cheaper and will cost USD 316.

Intel has also lowered the prices of its older chips including the Intel Pentium D and Celeron D and M processors. These cuts mean that a dual core Pentium D will now cost USD 74.

The microprocessor giant also cut prices of its Xeon range making the quad-core Xeon X3210 and X3220 now available for USD 423 and USD 530.
