Ubisoft Rarely Shares Sales Numbers. This Time, It Couldn’t Wait To

Jeu : Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced  |  Développeur : Vantage Studios (Ubisoft), led by Ubisoft Singapore  |  Éditeur : Ubisoft  |  Plateformes : PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam, Steam Deck Verified, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft+)  |  Prix : $59.99 standard  |  Date de sortie : July 9, 2026

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has sold more than 3 million copies in its first week, Ubisoft announced today, building on an already strong 2-million-copy opening day. The remake of 2013’s fan-favorite Black Flag has become one of Ubisoft’s clearest wins in years, backed by strong critic scores and a franchise-best Steam concurrent player count, even as a launch-day monetization backlash briefly dragged its Steam rating down.

From 2 Million on Day One to 3 Million in a Week

Ubisoft confirmed the day-one figure on July 10, a rare move for a publisher that has historically favored less direct metrics like engagement data or revenue over plain unit sales. The 2 million figure covers combined sales across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, without a platform breakdown. Today’s update pushes that total past 3 million in the game’s first week, with Ubisoft noting that Steam user reviews have continued climbing toward “Very Positive” thanks to post-launch patches and the announcement of a New Game+ mode.

Black Flag Resynced hit a peak of 99,451 concurrent Steam players within 24 hours, the highest ever recorded for an Assassin’s Creed title on the platform, and ranked number one on Twitch on launch day. During its Steam pre-release window, it reportedly outsold Assassin’s Creed Shadows five to one.

What Actually Changed From the 2013 Original

Black Flag Resynced is a ground-up rebuild on the latest version of Ubisoft’s Anvil engine, the same engine family behind Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Creative director Paul Fu, a veteran of the original Black Flag, told Ubisoft’s own gameplay deep dive that the goal was to honor the foundations of the 2013 game while sharpening it as a pure action-adventure title rather than leaning into the RPG systems of recent entries.

  • Combattre : Rebuilt around precise parries and shorter combo chains, though the Hidden Blade can no longer be used mid-combat
  • Furtivité : Tailing and eavesdropping missions no longer auto-fail the instant a player is spotted, addressing a long-standing complaint about the original
  • Naval combat: A new officer system lets players assign crew members to the Jackdaw, each contributing a unique ability tied to the main story rather than a passive stat boost
  • Mouvement : A new manual jump option gives players direct control over parkour momentum, alongside back and side ejects and a manual crouch

Visually, the remake adds ray-traced lighting, global illumination, modernized water simulation, and 60fps options on consoles. Technical architect Nicolas Lopez said the team pushed PS5 hardware hard enough during development that extracting meaningfully more from the platform for a future mainline entry will be difficult.

A Launch-Day Monetization Backlash

The strong sales and reviews came alongside real player frustration. Black Flag Resynced launched with roughly $85 worth of day-one DLC sitting next to its $59.99 base price, including cosmetic packs and a $5 map reveal pack that some players felt offered a direct gameplay advantage. The backlash was sharp enough to briefly push the game’s Steam rating from Mostly Positive down to Mostly Negative before recovering. PC Gamer reported that Ubisoft responded directly beneath negative Steam reviews, stating the standard edition includes the complete game, with nothing held back from paying customers.

Ubisoft added that all additional packs are optional and never required to finish the game. Whether that response changes player sentiment long-term remains to be seen, though the controversy is a smaller-scale version of the criticism Rockstar faced over Grand Theft Auto 6’s own paid-edition content.

The Backdrop: Labor Tension at Ubisoft Barcelona

The launch’s success arrived alongside a labor dispute at Ubisoft Barcelona, where employees have been striking over a proposal that could affect 51 jobs. The studio reportedly worked on the game’s underwater exploration and water technology systems. Ubisoft has said the restructuring is part of broader cost-reduction efforts and that no final decision will be made until consultation with staff concludes, while acknowledging employees’ right to express their views through the strike.

Résultat final

Black Flag Resynced is a genuine bright spot for Ubisoft after a rough stretch for the publisher, backed by real technical ambition and critical acclaim rather than nostalgia alone. The DLC backlash is a legitimate blemish on an otherwise strong launch, and the concurrent labor dispute in Barcelona is a reminder that a hit game doesn’t automatically translate into stability for the people who build it. Three million copies in a week says the goodwill toward Black Flag as a franchise still runs deep, even when Ubisoft’s monetization instincts test that goodwill.
