Half-Life 2

Half-Life 2

Half-Life 2 is developed and published by Valve. It released on November 16, 2004, for Windows, with later ports to Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, macOS, and Linux. Gordon Freeman awakens on an alien-occupied Earth, decades after the events of the original Half-Life, and finds himself pulled into a resistance movement fighting to reclaim City 17 from the Combine.

Über das Spiel

Half-Life 2 pairs first-person combat with the Source engine’s then-groundbreaking physics simulation, most memorably through the Gravity Gun, which lets players grab, throw, and weaponize almost any object in the environment. The campaign moves through a tightly authored mix of urban combat, vehicle sections, and puzzle-driven set pieces, all held together by Valve’s signature approach to environmental storytelling with no cutscenes breaking the first-person perspective.

Since Valve’s 20th Anniversary Update in November 2024, the base game has included the episodic sequels Half-Life 2 Episode One and Episode Two, both accessible directly from the main menu with automatic progression between chapters. The update also added Steam Workshop support, developer commentary, and a modernized UI, making this the most complete version of the game’s original trilogy arc available in one package.

Wesentliche Merkmale

  • Physics-Driven Gravity Gun Combat Grab, throw, and repurpose environmental objects as weapons, a mechanic that became one of the most influential ideas in first-person shooter design.
  • Included Episode One and Two The base game bundles both episodic sequels, continuing the story directly from the main menu with automatic chapter transitions.
  • Steam Workshop Support Play entire fan-made campaigns or swap in custom weapons, enemies, and UI elements built by the community.
  • Source Engine Environmental Storytelling The narrative unfolds entirely without cutscenes, relying on scripted sequences and environmental detail to build City 17’s atmosphere.
