Blizzard admite que The Old Republic está atrayendo a los suscriptores de WoW

For years World of WarCraft maintained its position as the number one MMORPG and no other paid MMO managed to change that until now.

World of WarCraft developer, Blizzard, admitted that it has seen a considerable drop in monthly subscriptions and that this drop is largely attributed to the recent launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic 3 months ago.

The Old Republic was launched on December 20th, 2011 and it managed to attain more than 1 million subscribers within 3 days. Currently, the game has more than 1.7 million active subscribers.

"We certainly do look at [where WoW players go], and we have a very smart bunch of guys who do our analytics for us," World of Warcraft producer John Lagrave explained. "Of course people are trying Star Wars — our development team are trying Star Wars! I'm one of the few people who are still playing it actually, but yeah we've seen a dip in subs."

"It certainly has to at least be attributable to The Old Republic," he said before adding that "it's also attributable to people who want to wait and get Mists of Pandaria [WoW expansion pack due for release later this year], so it's not surprising."
