God of War Laufey Could Be Less Than a Year Away, Say Two Credible Sources
Jeu : God of War Laufey | Développeur : Santa Monica Studio | Éditeur : Sony Interactive Entertainment | Plate-forme : PS5 | Date de sortie : TBA
Sony revealed God of War Laufey at State of Play on June 2, 2026, without announcing a release window. However, two credible industry sources now suggest the game targets a first-half 2027 launch. Neither Sony nor Santa Monica Studio has officially confirmed any release window.
This article is based on unconfirmed insider reports and analyst comments. Nothing has been officially confirmed by Sony or Santa Monica Studio.
What Sony Officially Confirmed
PlayStation Blog confirmed God of War Laufey as a PS5 exclusive currently in development at Santa Monica Studio. The State of Play reveal included approximately 20 minutes of gameplay footage. Sony listed the game with no release date or window, describing it only as “coming soon.”
The game stars Faye, voiced by Deborah Ann Woll, as the first lead protagonist in the series who is not Kratos. Faye awakens unexpectedly in the Everywhen after her death and funeral shown in the 2018 God of War. She must fight through a realm where gods from across world mythology compete for power, in order to protect Kratos and Atreus.
Additionally, Santa Monica confirmed Frank, a sentient cosmic cube voiced by Jack Quaid of The Boys, as Faye’s companion throughout the adventure. The reveal showed a revamped combat system built on the engine and tech stack from God of War Ragnarok.
What the Sources Are Saying
Insider NateTheHate posted on X on June 13, 2026, with a specific timeline claim. “Last I heard the target was first half 2027,” he wrote on X. “Could change but that was a hope at one point.”
In a follow-up reply, NateTheHate addressed the question of whether Until Dawn 2 or God of War Laufey would arrive first. “Both could potentially be in first half 2027,” he said. “But timelines could shift, as nothing is set in stone at this stage.”
Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier offered a separately consistent signal. He stated that the absence of a release date should not be read as a sign the game is far off. “In contrast to a lot of other big announcements, this one isn’t years away,” Schreier said, and separately confirmed that 2028 is “definitely not” the target.
Why Early 2027 Is Plausible
The timeline aligns with the series’ own release pattern. God of War launched in April 2018, and God of War Ragnarok followed in November 2022, a gap of approximately four and a half years. A first-half 2027 release for Laufey would land roughly four and a half years after Ragnarok.
Furthermore, Santa Monica Studio is not building on a new engine. The team has explicitly confirmed that God of War Laufey uses the same engine, assets, and tech stack developed for Ragnarok. Building on existing infrastructure significantly reduces development time compared to a ground-up project.
Additionally, WCCFTech noted that Santa Monica’s previous launches have typically favored the March to April window. A first-half 2027 target would fit that pattern precisely.
The 2027 Landscape
A first-half 2027 launch would place God of War Laufey into one of the most competitive release windows in recent memory. February 2027 already holds Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis on February 12, Persona 4 Revival, Fable, and Metro 2039. The rest of 2027 carries Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, Clockwork Revolution, Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, and The Wolf Among Us 2.
However, NateTheHate addressed the GTA 6 factor directly. “Unless something unexpected and catastrophically goes wrong with GTA 6 in the immediate future, it’ll hit November as planned,” he said. GTA 6 locks November 2027 as a release window most major publishers will want to avoid. Consequently, a spring 2027 slot would give God of War Laufey clear air before the industry’s biggest launch in years.
Résultat final
Two sources with strong track records are now pointing in the same direction. NateTheHate has a specific window from inside information. Schreier is signaling the same timeframe through denial of the alternatives. Neither constitutes an official announcement, and Sony will confirm the date on its own schedule. Still, early 2027 is now the most credible target on the table, and that is considerably sooner than the “coming soon” language from Sony suggested.
