Laufey Isn’t the End of the Story. Here’s What Comes After.
Games: God of War Laufey, untitled Kratos-led God of War | Développeur : Santa Monica Studio | Éditeur : Sony Interactive Entertainment | Laufey Release Date: February 16, 2027
Santa Monica Studio creative head Cory Barlog confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that God of War Laufey will launch February 16, 2027. In the same panel, Barlog confirmed a new, Kratos-led God of War game is also in development. That brings the franchise’s active project count to four.
What Barlog Actually Said
Barlog framed Laufey and the new Kratos game as connected rather than separate stories. He described Faye’s game as part of a larger tapestry the studio wants to explore across different characters. At the same time, he made clear that Kratos-led entries aren’t going away.
Barlog said simply that Kratos games will remain a constant throughout the franchise’s history. Notably, he also confirmed that Laufey will actively set up the new Kratos game’s story. According to Barlog, everything happening in Laufey builds toward what comes next for the franchise, so players should watch its ending closely.
Four God of War Projects, All at Once
Santa Monica Studio is currently juggling more God of War content than at any point in the franchise’s history. Here’s where each project stands:
- God of War Laufey: Launching February 16, 2027, starring Faye with Sekhmet, the Egyptian goddess of war, as a major antagonist
- God of War Trilogy Remake: Still in early development, with no release window announced
- God of War Prime Video series: Currently paused after an on-set injury forced the show to recast Kratos actor Ryan Hurst
- New Kratos-led God of War: Confirmed to exist, though release timing remains unknown
Where the New Kratos Game Might Go
Barlog has floated the idea of exploring the Egyptian or Mayan pantheons in past interviews. Sekhmet’s debut as Laufey’s main antagonist strongly suggests Egypt is already on the table. Series star Christopher Judge has separately said he’d love to take Kratos to Egypt himself.
Judge called the idea something that would complete his own arc with the character. Meanwhile, Kratos makes a brief cameo in Laufey’s uninterrupted reveal footage, offering Faye his hand at one point. That cameo hints he’ll resurface throughout Laufey’s story, laying groundwork for his next game before Santa Monica formally reveals it.
Résultat final
Santa Monica Studio isn’t just following up Ragnarok with one sequel. It’s building an entire God of War universe across games, a remake, and television, even with one of those projects currently stalled. Laufey’s February date gives fans something concrete to look forward to first. Barlog’s comments make clear it won’t be the last major God of War release for long.
