Just Dance world champion is a 16 year-old Turk

Professional gamers, watch out, there’s a new phenom on the pro-scene. No it’s not League of Legends, but Just Dance has pro-players all the same and in this case the competition isn’t dominated by teams from South Korea and China.

In the case of Just Dance, the world champion is a 16 year-old Turkish lad. Umutcan killed it at this year’s World Cup – which still plays the original Just Dance game. Originally released in 2009 and updated yearly – meaning most people who play the rather casual title move on to the next one as the generation’s roll on – but not the pro-scene. That’s where Umutcan is at his best and he showed it over the weekend.

What’s most impressive about his victory, is that he blew the competition out of the water, including last year’s and 2014 champion, Diegho San from Brazil. But Umutcan was able to pull ahead of him during the group stage, which meant the previous top-contender didn’t even make it into the final four.

There Umutcan faced off against other strong competitors from France, and Australia, but he held his nerve and dominated all the same.

Judges considered his movements and flair to be of a standard as-yet seen in this sort of competition, which means he’ll certainly be the one to beat when next-year’s world cup rolled around.
