Raiders of Blackveil is the debut title from Wombo Games, a new studio led by IO Interactive co-founder Janos Flösser. Released into Early Access on December 15, 2025, it attempts to fuse the tactical combat of a MOBA with the loop of a co-op extraction roguelite. While the premise is strong and the combat feels punchy, the game’s initial launch has been marred by technical issues, a lack of content, and forced online requirements even for solo play.

Skillshots, Synergies, and Extraction: Core Gameplay

  • MOBA Combat: The most distinct feature is the combat system. Instead of generic hack-and-slash attacks, characters control like MOBA champions (think Liga de Leyendas o Heroes of the Storm). You have a basic attack, active skills on cooldowns, and an ultimate ability. Aiming skillshots and managing cooldowns is key to survival.
  • The Extraction Loop: You form a team of up to 3 players to infiltrate the massive “Blackveil” factory. Your goal is to clear rooms, defeat bosses, and extract with loot. If you die or retreat early, you lose your gathered resources (except for what’s in your “safe slots”), creating a high-stakes risk/reward dynamic similar to Escape from Tarkov but in a fantasy setting.
  • Class Synergy: There are 8 different perk trees (like Melee, Ranged, Hybrid, Monk, Priest) that you can mix and match. The “dual perk” system encourages team coordination—if you pick perks that synergize with your teammates (e.g., a Priest buffing a Monk), you unlock powerful passive bonuses.
  • Roguelite Progression: Between runs, you use extracted currency (“glitter” and gold) to buy permanent upgrades. However, a unique twist is the health mechanic: taking too much damage permanently lowers your max HP for the rest of the run unless you find rare healing events, forcing you to play carefully.
  • Extraction Mechanics: The game borrows the “extract or lose it all” tension. You must decide when to push deeper for better loot or bug out to bank your winnings. Greed is often the real killer.
