Gothic 1 Remake Patch 1.0.1 Is Live: Fire Mages Fixed, Lockpicking Improved, 48 Fixes Total

Gothic 1 Remake launched on June 5, 2026, and Alkimia Interactive released Patch 1.0.1 one week later. The update went live on June 12 across PC, PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X/S. On Steam, players can confirm the update by checking for build CL168781 in the Settings menu.

The update delivers dozens of individual fixes covering quests, combat, stability, exploits, and audio. According to the official Steam announcement, Alkimia built the patch directly from community bug reports and feedback gathered since launch. The download weighs over 4GB on Steam.

Lockpicking Difficulty Indicator

The most visible quality-of-life change in Patch 1.0.1 is a new lockpick difficulty indicator. The indicator appears before the player attempts to pick any lock, allowing a difficulty check before committing lockpicks to the attempt. This removes the guesswork of discovering a lock is too hard only after wasting supplies.

The system does not make lockpicking easier or change its core mechanics. Alkimia confirmed that community feedback about the system feeling unclear since launch directly drove this fix.

Fire Mages Quest Fixed

Patch 1.0.1 fixes a critical bug that blocked players from joining the Fire Mage faction. A logic error caused the Fire Mages to attack the player during the joining ritual. This made the entire faction path unavailable, with no reliable workaround for most players.

The Fire Mages are one of Gothic’s three core factions alongside the Old Camp and Swamp Camp. Locking players out of a full third of the game’s faction options was a significant issue. The quest now triggers and completes correctly for all players after installing the patch.

Crash and Stability Fixes

Stability was another major focus of this update. Alkimia resolved several crash scenarios directly linked to DLSS and FSR upscaling on PC. Additionally, the team improved overall memory management to reduce instability across all platforms.

The Main Menu and Exit buttons now also disable during active save processes. This prevents a save corruption bug that could occur if players quit mid-save. Furthermore, Alkimia fixed multiple additional crash scenarios not related to upscaling in the same patch.

Exploits Patched

The patch also closes two notable exploits that broke the game’s intended progression. Previously, players could loot Gomez’s key at the very start of the game, gaining access to areas intended only for late-game. With Patch 1.0.1, Gomez’s key is no longer lootable before Chapter 5.

Similarly, the patch removes several economy exploits that let players accumulate Ore far too quickly. These changes restore the survival difficulty that defines the Valley of Mines experience.

Quest Fixes

Beyond the headline repairs, the patch addresses a number of secondary quest bugs. The “Forged Rivalries” quest now completes correctly regardless of the outcome the player chooses. Theron also now approaches the player to finish his quest, as the script originally intended.

The Abandoned Mine key is no longer lootable before the Caine quest begins. Gorn now correctly joins the player during the Troll fight without getting stuck in an idle state. Additionally, Syra’s quest receives a specific fix for players who defeated Bullit before the quest properly activated.

Combat, Audio, and Navigation

Patch 1.0.1 also refines several combat and traversal systems. Alkimia fixed magnet and targeting issues that caused inconsistent enemy lock-on during fights. The patch also corrects a bug that caused crossbows to disappear from the player’s hands during archery sequences.

Wall-climbing behavior receives targeted improvements to reduce getting stuck on geometry. Audio quality improves for both footstep sounds and attack impacts across all combat scenarios. Furthermore, NPC pathfinding and navigation updates reduce cases of companions and enemies becoming stuck in the world.

Important Note for Mod Users

Players who use mods should act before installing Patch 1.0.1. Alkimia strongly recommends disabling all third-party modifications before applying the update. Some mods may conflict with the new build and cause unexpected stability problems after installation.

After updating, players can confirm the patch installed correctly in the Settings menu. The verified build number for Patch 1.0.1 is CL168781. Console players will see this patch listed as Update 1.000.006 in their platform’s download queue.

Conclusión

Patch 1.0.1 does not resolve every issue players have raised since launch. However, it directly addresses the two most disruptive problems in a meaningful way. Unblocking the Fire Mages quest alone restores a full third of the game’s faction content for affected players.

Moreover, the lockpicking indicator is the right kind of fix. Alkimia preserved the game’s signature unforgiving feel while removing the frustration of wasted supplies and no feedback. Alkimia confirmed that support and improvements will continue in the weeks and months ahead, so further patches are already in progress.
