Besiege is a physics-based building game that asks a simple question: “Can you build a machine to destroy this windmill without accidentally blowing yourself up first?” Originally released on PC in 2020 after a long Early Access period, it finally completed its console journey in 2024. The Nintendo Switch version launched on September 12, 2024, followed by PS4 and PS5 sur December 12, 2024. Additionally, the game received its first major expansion, The Splintered Sea, on May 24, 2024, introducing water physics to the chaotic sandbox.
Blocks, Bombs, and Buoyancy: Core Gameplay

The Engineering Loop: The game presents you with a specific objective—destroy a castle, kill 90% of soldiers, or transport a delicate crystal. You are given a starting block and unlimited freedom to attach wheels, pistons, flamethrowers, and blades. The challenge isn’t just solving the puzzle; it’s fighting the physics engine. A machine that is too heavy will collapse under its own weight; one that is too fast will shake itself apart.
The Splintered Sea DLC: This expansion fundamentally changes the game by adding l'eau. You can now build boats, submarines, and amphibious vehicles. New blocks like buoyancy tanks and rudders allow for naval combat against “The Offlanders” and sea monsters. The water physics are simulated with drag and displacement, meaning you have to worry about capsizing just as much as enemy fire.
Sandbox Freedom: While the campaign offers 54 levels of puzzles, the Sandbox mode is where the community shines. Players have built everything from functioning binary computers to giant transforming mechs. The “Multiverse” update even added multiplayer, letting you battle your friends’ creations or cooperate to destroy massive fortresses.
Console Controls: The console ports have been surprisingly well-adapted. While mouse and keyboard are ideal for precision engineering, the gamepad controls use a smart grid-snapping and radial menu system that makes building on a TV screen intuitive, if slightly slower.

TotK uses “Ultrahand” to glue objects together for simple, improvisational solutions in an open world. Besiege is a dedicated simulator with much more complex mechanical joints (gears, pistons, logic gates) and brittle physics where structural integrity is a constant threat.


Programme spatial Kerbal
Both games are about fighting physics. KSP focuses on orbital mechanics and aerodynamics (getting there). Besiege focuses on mechanical engineering and destruction (breaking it).


Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
Nuts & Bolts is an arcade racer/platformer where you build vehicles. Besiege allows for vastly more complex logic and automation—you can build a self-reloading catapult or a walking bipedal mech, not just a car with a gun.

Parfait pour sadists. There is a primal joy in building a giant spinning blade machine and driving it into a formation of terrified pixel soldiers.
Sauter si you lack patience. Your machines volonté break. Often. If spending 30 minutes building a tank only for it to explode instantly because you forgot a brace sounds frustrating rather than funny, this isn’t for you.

Pourquoi ça marche
It works because of failure. In most games, failure is a “Game Over” screen. In Besiege, failure is a spectacle. Watching your carefully constructed airship spontaneously combust and spiral into a farmhouse is often more entertaining than actually completing the level. The game encourages you to fail spectacularly, laugh, and then add more struts.
