Gothic Remake Is Bringing Back One of the Original’s Most Beloved Features

Jeu : Gothic 1 Remake  |  Développeur : Alkimia Interactive  |  Éditeur : THQ Nordic  |  Plateformes : PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S  |  Announcement: THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2026, August 8

Alkimia Interactive has confirmed a wave of new content coming to Gothic 1 Remake, including a Photo Mode, the classic Marvin Mode, and official mod support. The announcement came alongside a thank-you message to players, two months after launch.

Buried at the end of the same video is a bigger tease: Alkimia’s next game, expected at THQ Nordic’s 2027 showcase.

What’s Actually Coming to the Remake

Studio head and game director Reinhard Pollice detailed the plans directly. Bug fixes and general polish remain the immediate priority, based on ongoing player feedback. Beyond that, Alkimia confirmed four new features without giving specific release dates.

  • Photo Mode: A dedicated mode for composing and sharing screenshots of the Valley of Mines
  • Marvin Mode: The return of the original game’s developer cheat console, letting players spawn items, teleport, and test world mechanics freely
  • Alternative progression modes: New ways to play through the game, though Alkimia hasn’t detailed the mechanics yet
  • Official mod support: A full mod kit, expanding on the more limited modding already possible in the remake

Marvin Mode carries real history. In the original 2001 Gothic, it worked as an unofficial developer console that let players toggle god mode or spawn creatures at will.

Currently, similar functionality in the remake only exists through community mods, according to VGTimes’ reporting on the reveal. Official support would be a meaningful upgrade for players who want it built in.

Why This Update Matters After Four Patches

Gothic 1 Remake has already received four major patches since launch, fixing bugs and rebalancing combat, armor, and loot. Those fixes reportedly helped the game’s standing enough that GameStar’s own re-review bumped up its score after the initial launch assessment.

This new roadmap signals Alkimia isn’t just patching problems, but actively expanding the game’s feature set.

That expansion matters commercially too. GamingBolt reports that Gothic 1 Remake sold 500,000 copies in its first week, making it one of THQ Nordic’s most impactful releases this year.

A game performing that well makes continued investment in new features an easier call for the publisher, rather than just maintenance patches.

The Gothic 2 Speculation

Near the end of the roadmap video, Alkimia teased an entirely separate, unnamed project. The studio plans to formally announce it around next year’s THQ Nordic Digital Showcase, without confirming what it is.

Given the context, most fans immediately assumed a Gothic 2 remake. That assumption isn’t baseless.

GamingBible notes that rumors are already pointing toward a Gothic 2 remake specifically. Alkimia previously responded to a YouTube comment requesting exactly that.

Studio spokesperson Reinhard Pollice has also told GameStar in a past interview that the team has discussed revisiting Gothic 2. Nothing here confirms it outright, but the timing and framing make the guess reasonable rather than pure wishful thinking.

Résultat final

Two months post-launch, Alkimia is doing something publishers don’t always manage. It’s following bug fixes with genuine new content, rather than moving on entirely.

Marvin Mode’s return and official mod support could meaningfully extend the game’s lifespan among its most dedicated players. The Gothic 2 tease remains unconfirmed.

Even so, between the strong sales, the studio’s own past comments, and this announcement’s timing, it’s a reasonable bet rather than idle fan speculation.

Editor’s note: Alkimia’s roadmap video is on YouTube, but we couldn’t verify its official channel before publishing, so we’ve omitted the embed rather than risk linking an unofficial reupload.
