Has Valve cancelled In the Valley of the Gods?
Rumors are circulating that Valve may have cancelled Campo Santoâs next game, In the Valley of the Gods. The parent company of the Firewatch developer hasnât said anything about the game since its announcement trailer and when Valve purchased the company in April 2018. Curiouser still, many of In the Valley of the Gods developers have removed mention of it from their public social-networking profiles.
Itâs not uncommon for Valve to keep mum about games itâs working on. Indeed, itâs been 12 years since the last Half Life game, and despite endless badgering from its fan base, Valve has only now announced the next game in the series; A VR game called Half Life: Alyx. But the removal of any mention of the game from Twitter and other social profiles is a concern for fans hoping Valley of the Gods would see the light of day.
PCGamer did some digging into claims made by the Valve News Network on Twitter and discovered that many of the social profile changes that removed mention of Valley of the Gods, did so relatively recently. Some, as recently as October 2019. This could be part of Valveâs policy of not discussing games before theyâre released, but youâd assume that that would have happened earlier in Campo Santoâs acquisition.
Itâs entirely possible that the strong, story-driven team that made Firewatch and was making In the Valley of the Gods, has instead been moved over to work on Half Life: Alyx, a game that will no doubt be first-person and story-driven. But thereâs no indication of that, itâs purely speculation based on the timing of this whole affair.
Valve hasnât made any kind of statement about the game or the social network changes by developers, but thatâs no surprise.
Do you think In the Valley of the Gods has been cancelled?
